A friend has asked me to help make-over his flat. He originally bought it as a holiday flat to use occasionally when visiting Eastbourne but now his circumstances have changed, he has moved back to the UK permanently and he needs to make it his home. He has a small budget for the project and is not keen on DIY so anything I suggest will need to be cheap and easy to implement. This got me thinking of ways to change a room quickly and simply.
Colour need not be permanent-you can paint panels in a bright colour and place against a neutral wall. This is a good way of changing the mood of a room easily as the panels can be repainted. You can do the same thing with wallpaper – paste onto MDF panels and hang on the wall
If you’re looking to make a major impact on a room for minimum outlay, stickers are a brilliant option. But their biggest positive isn’t just that they make a fantastic focus in a busy space – they are also so easy to apply, too. So, you can go from dull to decorated in just a few minutes – and at very little cost
Funky Georgian style rooms are so on trend this year – with painted panelled rooms, wooden floors and plenty of eccentric accessories and artwork on display. It’s an easy look to create – you can make panelling just by sticking lengths of pre-cut mdf, ply or wood to a wall, then filling and painting it all one shade. Or you can buy panelling ready-made and ready-to-paint
Whether you want to hide an ugly view or maintain your privacy, having frosted glass is the perfect solution because, unlike blinds or curtains, it doesn’t block out any light. Having sandblasted glass fitted is expensive, so why not choose inexpensive window film instead? Easy and quick to fit, it comes in a vast range of styles and designs
Last but not least, the best way to transform a tired and dated three piece suite, is to have new loose covers made for it. You can get loose covers made for a sofa for about £200 plus the cost of the material, so it will work out at about 1/2 the price of a new suite, and is more environmentally friendly than sending functional furniture to the tip.
