My brief was to create a beautiful but practical space in which to host regular large family get-togethers. Katie likes Ercol furniture and the house was built in the 1950s so I decided on a mid-century modern theme. Large folding glass doors lead from the dining room to the garden, which overlooks fields so I wanted to choose fresh natural colours that reflected the surrounding idyllic countryside.
The kitchen, which links to the dining room via an open arch, had already been designed with pale wood cabinets and white stone worktops but the floor needed replacing so I chose sheet vinyl in apple green in both rooms.
