This Autumn, I’ve decided to do learn something practical so I’ve enrolled on an upholstery course. We covered upholstery and fabrics while I was studying for my interior design diploma but the theory, not the practice, and thought this would be a useful skill to have (especially as up-cycling is becoming so popular). So last weekend I spent scouring antique markets in Lewes for a small, cheap chair to upholster on the course. I eventually found a Victorian folding chair for £30.00, which was ideal as it needed to be light and easy to carry. I spent the rest of the weekend stripping the dark varnish off the frame. I initially thought about painting it but will probably simply strip it right back to the original wood and finish with wax.
While searching for inspiration for the type of style and fabric to choose, I came across these examples
I will be posting more updates on my upholstery project soon
