The brief was to design and dress three show flats in a refurbished development near Eastbourne seafront. Two were small one-bedroom properties which would make ideal holiday flats, or weekend retreats, and the other was a large two bedroom flat. My client had identified his target market as being young first-time buyers and purchasers looking for a holiday flat, and wanted the interiors to appeal to both. To keep the design fee competitive, I kept the basic style of furniture the same throughout and used different colour schemes and accessories to give each property its own identity and character. To keep buying costs down, and also to prevent the spaces feeling cramped, I kept the furniture to just the basic items and added interest with artwork, cushions, rugs and accessories. All flats have laminate floors in the living areas, carpets in the bedroom and white blinds.
Flat 1 is a duplex with a small open plan living area and double bedroom and bathroom accessed by a spiral staircase.
Flat 2 has one double bedroom, one single and a large open plan living/dining area.
Flat 3 has a very small double bedroom, and a spiral staircase leading to the kitchen and living area, which has its own little terrace, ideal for sitting out on Summer evening.
